Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine which originated in China over 3000 years ago. It is also the most researched form of complementary therapy. Acupuncture is now accepted all over the world as a valid system of health care and thousands of studies have been carried out world wide showing it to be effective for a wide range of health problems. Today the World Health Organisation recognises over one hundred conditions that may be helped by acupuncture.
Recent scientific research shows that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce endorphins. These chemicals affect various body systems, reduce pain and make you feel good.
According to traditional Chinese medicine, our health is dependent on the body’s motivating energy or 'Qi' moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels under the skin. When the Qi flows freely the body is in a healthy state. If the Qi becomes unbalanced disharmony and illness may result.
Emotional disturbances such as anxiety, anger, grief, poor diet, overwork or stress may influence the flow of Qi in the body. The stimulation of appropriate acupoints with fine sterile needles and/or moxa will regulate the flow of energy and restore health and wellbeing. The aim is to stimulate the body’s own healing response and restore its natural balance.
Some conditions that may be helped by acupuncture include period pain, no periods, unexplained fertility problems, PCOS, endometriosis, morning sickness, anxiety, depression, neck, back and joint pain. It also complements assisted reproductive techniques such as IVF, ICSI, IUI etc.
I’m convinced that acupuncture contributed to the success of my first
IUI. I felt so calm, relaxed and well in myself that I sailed through
the whole procedure with a positive result at the end. Thank you so
much". Melanie
When
diagnosed with a high FSH and told I wouldn’t be able to have children I
was distraught. Within 3 months of acupuncture treatment my FSH had
dropped. Treatment continued and a further 4 months later I was
pregnant! I couldn’t believe it. It was thanks to the treatments and
your continued support and encouragement that all my dreams came true".
